La infección protésica es una de las complicaciones más graves que pueden acontecer tras la colocación de un implante. El número creciente de esta cirugía, debido al envejecimiento de la población y su necesidad de vivir con buena calidad de vida ha llevado a un aumento de las complicaciones, entre ellas, la infección.
Su diagnóstico y tratamiento suponen un desafío para la comunidad médica, así como una complicación grave para el paciente y un gran coste sanitario para el Sistema Nacional de Salud. Por ello, consideramos la importancia de conocer esta patología para poder realizar un diagnóstico y tratamiento precoz aumentando así su tasa de erradicación.
